Where it all began
South Tyrolean entrepreneur Josef Gostner, through ABD Holding, acquires Bolzano Airport. In the same year, SkyAlps is founded with the vision of restoring scheduled flights from the airport and boosting tourism from and to the region.
Planning for takeoff
SkyAlps plans to launch operations in May 2020. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the start of flights is postponed. Despite this, strategic planning continues to ensure a strong market entry. The core values of SkyAlps are defined: a unique flight experience, a strong regional identity, and a deep commitment to passenger needs.
SkyAlps takes flight
On June 17, 2021, SkyAlps inaugurates its first flights to Olbia and Ibiza, marking the official start of operations. Shortly after, new connections with Germany are introduced. At the end of 2021, Bolzano Airport’s runway is extended from 1,293 to 1,462 meters, increasing operational flexibility.
Air Operator Certificate: A New Era
In January 2023, SkyAlps obtains its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC), granting the airline full independence to operate flights with its own aircraft. This milestone enables the expansion of its route network and the optimisation of flight schedules, providing passengers with more travel options.
Expanding fleet and network
Throughout the year SkyAlps focuses on expanding the fleet, bringing it to a total of 8 operative machines, and adding many new routes. In this way SkyAlps reaches 8 countries and over 20 cities all over Europe.
The journey continues
This is just the beginning. With a passionate team of over 150 highly motivated professionals, SkyAlps is ready for more milestones. Further fleet additions, new destinations, and new synergies are on the horizon, promising an even better travel experience for our passengers.
